3rd Grade music cartoon

04-06-2020

Good morning 3rd graders.  I hope you are all doing well, and singing along with my Good Morning videos.  I will post a new one soon.

April is "Jazz Appreciation Month".  Do you remember what March was called?
.....that's right, "Music In Our Schools Month".

Jazz is a kind of music that started in the United States, and became loved all over the world.  Jazz musicians improvise.  Improvise means you make it up on the spot.

I'd like you to listen to some Jazz.
Please go to YouTube and find:   Putumayo Kids Presents Jazz

Find the song "This Little Light of Mine" at 29:24 (that means 29 minutes and 24 seconds into the video)
You will recognize this song from our Black History Month Concert.
The singer sings 2 verses and then an instrument improvises a solo.  They make it up on the spot.
What is that instrument?

Next, find "Spider Man"  at 2:43     After you hear the singer sing, there are a few instruments that improvise.  Can you name the first one?  Can you name any others?

When the solos are done, give them a round of applause.  That's what Jazz listeners do!

Send me an e-mail and let me know what solos you heard, and how you enjoyed Jazz music!

Have a great day!  Stay healthy and wash your hands - Ms. W   nwirchnianski@dps170.org
